Open BAR file, without improting in OBI 12c
Hi
I am wondering how can we open BAR file without importing in to service instance.
I have gone through below oracle doc about importServiceInstance command but this command allows to import into a target service instance, which i dont want to do it before knowing whats in that BAR file.
9 Managing Metadata and Working with Service Instances
For example, if i want to open the Usage_Tracking.bar file and do necessary changes before deploying/merging into the current rpd.
Thanks in advance,
MM

Hi,
You can open the BAR and look inside if you are curious, it is a zip file ...
For example, if i want to open the Usage_Tracking.bar file and do necessary changes before deploying/merging into the current rpd.
No, that's not how things are supposed to work ...
If you open the Usage_Tracking.bar it is only to look what's inside.
You can't "offline" open a BAR, change things offline as if it was running on a OBIEE server, and then import it in a real running OBIEE. That's not how the BAR file is supposed to be used.
If you need to change the content you can export your current instance of OBIEE, load the Usage Tracking BAR instead, make changes and load your things on top or export the new UT bar and then after reloading your own things you add your UT on top.
Or if really needed you can take the pieces from the BAR, and add what you need to your current OBIEE by hand (wouldn't suggest to do that if you aren't familiar with all the details of RPD, web cat etc.).

As said it is a ZIP file.
So take the app you normally use to open zip files...
The extension doesn't matter at all.
