OBIEE/BI Publisher Disaster Recovery?

Im not quite sure how to word this, but I recently had a team mate that was "playing" around in our Weblogic Console in our DEV enviroment.
It looks like some how BI Publisher was undeployed/removed.
We can see that the BI Publisher service is "down", so we tried to restart the services a few times though it just does not start. It keeps on staying in a "down" state.
We do take semi regular file based back ups of our environment.
So in our linux box, there is a fully zipped/.tar file of our entire OBIEE/BI Publisher folder BEFORE BI Publisher was removed.
I was just wondering, in order to recover in this instance, would it be as simple as to restore any missing files between the current folder and the backed up zipped folder?
We have not had to do a "recovery" like this before, so am not sure the steps, or if we can even recover properly.
A lot of documentation that I have read from Oracle seems to allude to the fact that if something has gone "wrong", the best method to recover is to restore the entire folder that was affected within the OBIEE directory.
Im not sure if it would be as simple as restoring missing files/folders in any disaster recovery?
Any insight appreciated.

Linux FTW. With that you're basically peachy. You'll just lose any change done to the RPD, webcat, artifacts, config etc between the "oups, dropped" and the backup.
But those you can save and redeploy after the backup has been restored.

Trust me, I also did a snort of half disbelief/half are you kidding me
Quite tempting to slap the person on the back of the head......but I kept it professional
So in our scenario, would it be as simple
1) Shutting down all the services
2) Take our most recent .tar back up file, and unzip it over the home directory?
This would just over write anything that is there, and also restore any missing files.
Then restart the services and things should be peachy again?
Just wanted to make sure I cover all the steps before I try to rectify this blunder

In that case a slap on the back of the head would be extremely professional, a lot worse could be done

Yeap that's it. Believe me it's not something we haven't done ourselves some times when "config" turned into "this is too tedious let's try the sledgehammer" method.
