Oracle Analytics has been recognized as a Leader in the inaugural ‘IDC MarketScape: U.S. Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms 2022 Vendor Assessment’ report.
Introducing the research, IDC Analysts Dan Vesset and Ray Huo wrote: “Business intelligence (BI) and analytics software is one of the most visible pieces of the technology stack that enables data-driven or data-informed decision making and greater enterprise intelligence. While data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses, and various data integration and data intelligence software form the foundation of an organization's data and analytics technology architecture, it is business intelligence and analytics software that data analysts, business analysts, and others in the organization interact with daily.”
Why does IDC consider Oracle Analytics as one of the leading options for BI and analytics in the U.S.?
Innovative augmented analytics capabilities were built into Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) by design, including natural language (NL) and natural language query (NLQ). IDC’s assessment notes the specific capabilities integrated with machine learning, leading to autogeneration of insights and explanations of the analyzed dataset. IDC draws particular attention to OAC’s “strong NL capabilities that combine AI-based linguistics and semantic modeling of the data; NLQ driven on-the-fly calculation and dashboard generation, negations, and expression filters”.
As IDC acknowledges, Cloud offerings now dominate the Analytics & BI Platforms market. While this report evaluates BI and analytics vendors’ U.S. market capabilities, it notes that as a global cloud service OAC is available in “dozens of geographic regions” around the globe. However, Oracle has always been aware many enterprise customers are moving to the cloud at differing speeds; to accommodate this, Oracle ensured that modern, augmented analytics and BI features are available on premise for those organizations. This is not true for many competitors, as those platforms often fail to offer a on-premises version with complete functionality. This flexibility is acknowledged by IDC when addressing reasons to consider Oracle Analytics.
Finally, IDC acknowledges the perception paradox. Rating Oracle as a leader, the IDC analysis highlights Oracle Analytics’ wide range of modern functional strengths, from its self-service user interface to the supported integrated ML and AI services. However, IDC’s report raises a challenge, the need to “overcome the perceptions of users that have long-term experience with previous generations of the company's BIA products”. IDC does note that this issue is common to many long-standing BI vendors. Positively, IDC says that Oracle is addressing this perceptual challenge, and reports like this, which fully focus on what Oracle Analytics can do (rather than outmoded perceptions) help to do so too.
