Arriving with the 20B Release (May), Eloqua is introducing ability to hide content in mobile or desktop views

Easily hide component cells in mobile or desktop view.

How will it work?

You can now hide specific component cells in desktop or mobile using the Design editor. This is a great way to easily optimize your emails and landing pages across different devices and screen sizes. In desktop view, you can select a cell and click the hide in mobile toggle. In mobile view, you can select a cell and click on the hide in desktop toggle. This feature is controlled availability (CA) and available upon request. File a support request (SR) to get access to requested Eloqua instances and users.

Important note: Hide in mobile and desktop capability is rigorously tested across Eloqua's supported email clients and browsers, but Eloqua cannot guarantee 100% coverage. Always test emails and landing pages in the clients and browsers most important to your business. It is advised that your design looks acceptable and gracefully falls back if an element is not successfully hidden.

FAQs

Q: What is the optimizing mobile and desktop feature?

A: In the design editors you can now hide individual component cells in mobile or desktop views, across both emails and landing pages.

Q: What is the benefit of hiding cells?

A: Thinking mobile first, hiding cells gives more control to email and landing page design to deliver an optimized experience across desktop and mobile.

Q: Is this feature generally available?

A: This feature is in controlled availability. You will need to file a support request (SR) to get access. This will be an open controlled availability for all who request it.

Q: Is this only the email editor, or does it apply to landing page?

A: The optimizing mobile and desktop feature is available in both the email editor and the landing page editor. For both you can choose to hide a cell in desktop or mobile.

Q: Which email clients and browsers are supported?

A: The optimizing mobile and desktop feature is tested in Eloqua’s supported email clients and browsers, which cover the clients and browsers most commonly used. We cannot guarantee hiding a cell will work across all devices and browsers, and recommend always testing the clients and browsers most important to you. You can see the list here and here.

Q: Does this work in the source editor?

A: No, this feature is only available in the design editors. You can use the export HTML feature in the design editor to export and re-upload the optimized HTML into the source editor. Any changes to uploaded HTML in the source editor are not guaranteed to be responsive.

Q: How can I submit feedback or questions?

A: You can submit feedback and questions to support or as a comment at the bottom of this page. To update the status of your beta flag or controlled availability participation please reach out to support.

Q: Will this affect any custom CSS I’m currently using in the design editors?

A: Any custom CSS being used in the design editors today will be unaffected.

Q: When will this feature be generally available?

A: There is no estimated general availability date yet, but with the 20B release you can request controlled availability access through a support request.

So far this is testing really well.  I do have a list of suggestions, but I am having one issue where when I click the Hide in Desktop option, it is also hiding in mobile.  Then when I add another copy of the item, it will show again for some reason.  Seems to be a bug.  I have tried refreshing and reopening and that doesn't seem to work.

I am not sure if there is a limit to the number of hidden elements, but I am trying to create a single email to showcase a bunch of possible use cases for my team.

Also seeing this issue in ios Outlook.  If an item with a background image is hidden from desktop, the background image only goes as far as the text block.  FYI, this happens with both dark mode enabled and disabled.

Full Width - Correct - only with hide in desktop disabled:

Shortened Width - Incorrect - only with hide in desktop turned on:

Use case: Looking to use an image in desktop and a background image in mobile to avoid outlooks no background images issue.
