Tracking External Candidates of a Succession Plan (Best Practices)

My HR colleagues would like to know how other customers are tracking External Candidates of a Succession Plan in light of the fact that Fusion does not support this functionality out of the box currently, although I hear it is coming. What vehicles are you using to track them, e.g., Excel, third party software, etc. and what information do you collect about them? Also, has your organization raised any concerns about tracking External Candidates in Fusion given the General Data Protection Regulation?
Any feedback you can provide would be appreciated.
