Can Absences update Manage Employment page?

We have historically managed absences through Manage Employment page. Updated Assigntment status and used action/action reasons. Now we are looking to use the Manage Absence Records funtionality but can Manage Employment get updated? How do report or update assigntment status of a person if on leave?
