Create a new item directly from a sales order line

New to Oracle Order Mgt and have a requirement to create a brand new item directly from a sales order. These are non-catalog items...one-time buys, special ordered items, etc. Preference is to avoid using shell codes (i.e. manufacturer specific generic items) as product catalog/type, average cost, etc can vary a great deal.

I was wondering if anyone new of a (supported) method which allows users to create a new item at the time of order entry (create item, enter required fields, extend to current inventory org, etc).
