How to change PTO accrual period?

We are needing to change our PTO periodContent
Hi, I'm looking for advice. Our annual leave accrual period current runs from January to December. Our organisation is wanting to bring this into line with our financial year, which runs from April to March.
What is the best approach?
Should we try and create a one-off 15-month leave "year" to move us to the new cycle, or would a 3-month adjustment period be better?
Or should we just introduce the change mid-year, slamming it in and making manual adjustments to deal with any issues?
If anyone has done this before, I'd really like to hear what you did and how it went.
