Is anybody using Continuous Performance and only using Check Ins, Feedback Requests?

My client are looking to move away from standard annual reviews and move towards a continuous performance model. I am suggesting they use Check Ins and Feedback Requests to manage this but wondered if anybody else is using this and would be happy to share their experiences?
They ideally want to have monthly check-ins. Is there a way we can prompt Managers/Employees to do this other than through reporting? Would it be best to create a new check in every month or update the same one (in which case, would it be easy to report on this to ensure check ins are taking place?)
