Create Timecard with Approved Absence

Hi All,
We are in the process of implementing Time and Labor and Absence Management.
We want approved absences to appear on the timecard but I haven't been able to get this working as I imagined it would. So far it only populates into a time card if one already exists.
So as a basic example
1) I create an absence as an employee for a full timecard period
2) approve this as their manager.
3) I search for a timecard for that timecard period and nothing will display.
4) If I then go in and manually open a timecard for the same period the absence will populate
