Absence - Restrict future termed employee to overbook Absence

We had a situation recently where an employee with a future term date, was able to book PTO in Absence Management which exceeded his accrued PTO entitlement.
- Employee was terminated in Fusion application HCM on 10th July with a future term date of 1st August.
- HR checked his accrued PTO entitlement up to his term date and advised the employee of his PTO balance.
- Employee subsequently booked PTO in Absence Management which exceeded his PTO balance as of term date resulting in an overpayment.
Is there a way to prevent this from happening in future?
