Benefit rates for non primary assignment

We have situations where employees go on secondment and their primary assignment is suspended and they get a temporary secondment assignment. The suspended assignment is still primary (salary is now end dated) and the temporary assignment salary is started but is not primary.

Now our rates for LTD are based off a persons salary, so when these employees' life event for secondment hire is processed, it makes the LTD rates 0 as the primary assignment's salary is not active anymore. How to ensure the LTD rate calculation is based on the salary for the secondment assignment that is active?
