Is there any impact of creating a Absence type without absence plan

We have a Scenario where for all the absence type there is a Absence Plan associated. We wanted to is it absolutely required to create a Plan and associate to the Absence Type. Would appreciate if you all can help us know if there is any Implication of creating a Absence type without absence plan
