I would like to restrict role access/display of two descriptive flexfields (DFF)

Summary: I would like to restrict role access/display of two descriptive flexfields (DFF) of development goals. I already tried restricting access via page composer, using the step by step of the document provided in customer connect that shows how to hide fields (not flexfields), but it did not work. I also tried hiding the field via design studio, but it didn't work. Is there any other way to restrict the display of flexfields?
