Absence approvals failing when configured on the basis of department

The employees have been divided into Corporate and Retail employees.
The approval flow has been set on the basis of the grade as well as leave type.
But there is another set of employees under retail that are- they are to be bifurcated on the basis of department.

We are unable to update the absence approvals for those employees on the basis of department. and the absence is failing everytime.
