creating work order for an ATO Model

Summary:

Need step by step guide on how to create a work order for an ATO Model. I have the ATO Model item created, set up item structures and also the work definition for ATO Model. When i go to work execution and try creating a work order directly for Model, the model does not show up in work order creation. I know this is just a model. Hence my questions are

1. Can we create a direct work order after defining work definition for ATO Model. If yes how does it work. Pls share step by step guide
2. If point 1 is not possible, Is that always we need to create a sales order for ATO Model and that converts into Work order in manufacturing. If yes, then how does oracle generate the ATO Item from Model.
