How to set email channel field to blank while sending email?

I have a requirement to set the email channel field to blank value when a user attempts to send an email. I have tried this via VB and this region does not seem to be customizable. Does anyone know a way to make this field to blank by default please? We want the users to manually select one of the channels and don't want them to leave the default one by mistake.
