How to pass custom values from the work definition to the work order

Summary:

There is a business requirement to pass the routing details of a work definition (separate from operations and ingredients) to the work order. This would include the specific machines and ingredients in order for downstream systems to consume for detailed routing information. We have discovered that attachments at the operation level are passed onto the work order, but this would be a complicated approach. Is there another option outside of attachments or work definition process name for passing on custom fields to from a work definition to a work order?
