Conversations don't show up in the case without reloading

When creating a new conversation from within a case, the conversation successfully saves but it doesn't seem to actually update the view of the Case itself.

i.e. after the first conversation is sent, it still shows Conversations (0) in the section. You have to leave the case and come back in to see the conversation. Is this by design?

Below, the screenshot shows three conversations (sometimes a new conversation does show up right away, sometimes it doesn't), but the heading shows two:
