Is there a setting that removes a notification (from the bell icon) for an expired approval?

We have the following scenario:

There's an expiration rule within the vacation (absence) approval rule. An employee requests time off, and the manager has X days to approve it.

Is it possible for the notification in the alerts bell to disappear after this period, so the manager no longer has access to that notification?
