HOW TO securely invoke from OIC a web service running on oci vm protected by api gateway

in OCI - General

We need to invoke from OIC Integration a web service running on OCI-VM in a private network and protected by OCI-API GATEWAY.

We ideally would like to use OIC 3 Private IP within a Private Subnet but support/dev stated that this topology is not supported.

What is the supported topology for this simple use case?
