Sequential approval not working as expected for the absence type

We are configuring approval rules for a particular absence type.
For a specific absence type the approval must route to

Line manager
One approval group
Application role.

We have configured the same in Transaction console approval groups for Global Absence Recording - Single Assignment process.

The approval is routing in the above sequence. However in the end again the approval is going to LM again.
I.e.,

Manager --> approval group--> application role --> Manager .

Once the approval is done at application role level, the request should be approved but this is going back to Manager.

Could you please advise.
