Inactivate a performance check-in template that is in use

How can we inactivate a check-in template that is in Use? There is no way to use the field Status (because it is greyed out) and there is no way either to change the To Date (with a particular date).

Let's say the check-in from date to date is the calendar year but starting with mid of the year we no longer want to use the template and we need to replace it with a new one. How do you proceed with such situations? Can you please confirm how do you proceed to inactivate check-ins templates overall without deleting check-ins that were already created?
