How can I use different Approval Participant Types for different approval flows for one rule in HCM?

Summary:

Our challenge is that both the Administer Individual Compensation flow and the Manage Individual Compensation flow share the exact same underlying approval rule.
We have successfully created two distinct approval flows within the rule —one for each process—but they both seem to inherit the routing method (e.g., Parallel or Sequential) that applies globally to all flows within the rule.

How can we configure the Approval Participant Type (Sequential or Parallel) to be dynamic based on the compensation transaction flow, when both flows (Administer Individual Compensation and Manage Individual Compensation) map to the same underlying BPM Approval Task
