S_SHIP_UNIT.TOTAL_GROSS_WEIGHT exists in inbound XML but isn’t updated in S_SHIP_UNIT or shown in UI

Although the inbound shipment XML contains the S_SHIP_UNIT.TOTAL_GROSS_WEIGHT section/field (refer below), the value is not getting populated in the S_SHIP_UNIT table, nor is it visible in the UI.
