Why absence accrual duration consumed in the balance is different from the absence duration ?

Summary: Absence duration does not match the duration consumed from the employee’s accrual balance.

Situation of the employee:

• We have created an absence type “Child care” in hours.
• The absence type is linked to an absence plan.
• Employee have a Time work schedule from 08h30 to 16h00.

Requirement : we allow the employee to create a “Child care” absence outside the work schedule, for example from 06h30 AM to 12:00 AM, which correspond to an absence of 5,5 hours.

To implement this requirement with have created a specific Fast formula : Global Absence Type Duration. The Fast formula used the Start Date – Time and the End Date – Time to compute the duration (without the formula the absence duration is 3,5 hours instead of 5,5. Because the system considers that the absence start 08:30).
