How can I automatically update existing employees’ rate values after modifying a rate definition?

A rate-based salary basis includes three rate definitions. One of these rate definitions is defaulted using a value-defined criterion. Employees already have this salary basis assigned. After updating the existing value-defined criterion linked to that rate definition, I ran the rate-based salary process, but the employees’ existing salary records did not update—the rate value remained unchanged.
