Oracle Spatial - distance variation issue

Distance calculated using the Oracle Spatial external rating engine via Rate Distance is varying between the original shipment planning stage and the Ship Confirm/Actuals process when the ‘Recalculate Cost’ agent action is executed. The issue appears to be intermittent.

For example:

  • Shipment 10000XXX1 was originally planned with a loaded distance of 255 miles.
  • During Ship Confirm, the loaded distance was recalculated as 358 miles.

Between Shipment Creation and Ship Confirm, there were no changes to the location city or postal code.

The only potential location-related change identified was the execution of ‘Validate Location Address’ using the Oracle Spatial external distance engine. This was triggered due to a change in Address Line 2 (empty tag) received from ERP on the location update.
