Do you ask for graduation year during application process

Hi,

We are trying to determine if we want to gather graduation year during the application process. We feel this will help expedite education verifications, but our legal department feels by asking this it may open us up for age discrimination claims

I want to find out if any companies are asking for graduation dates during the intitial application process and if so, have you had age discrimination claims for this?
