Disabling auto numbering of requisition/candidate ids

We would like to change the requisition and candidate id fields from view only to enterable in our Taleo TBE test zone so we can enter the numbers ourselves.  We need to do this to ensure that when we integrate from Taleo to our PSoft test system we are not using a number that already integrated in production.  I can see where the flags are on the page layouts, however even as an administrator it is not letting me unclick the view only box.
