Custom report with parameter

We have added a custom field called 'Tools & Modules' in the Work History section of an employee. The idea is that the employee puts in all of the tools and modules that he is familiar with in this field. When I create a report with this parameter and enter just one word that is in this field, the report comes back with nothing. Is it possible to create such a report?
