Terminate step - is there a way to skip a step but continue process?

I selected Terminate on a step that had already been kicked off. Now our whole process seems stalled.  I read from other posts once you hit terminate then you have to restart onboarding.  But I'm wondering if this desire happens again, is there is a way to cancel a step and still move forward in our process?
