Default Report Layouts?

Is there a way to set a default report layout for all reports?
I often run quick ad hoc reports with just the information I need, but with the system, it has become very cumbersome.
Each time I run/create a new report:
- I have to adjust the paper size, because the report layout won't let me include all my data (paper too small)
- I have to remove the headers and footers because if I don't, it won't let me Filter and Sort in Excel, because it says cells have been merged.
Any help would be appreciated!
