Candidate Next Steps Actions

I am trying to create an Action Step that when chosen, will send an email template to the candidate and also automatically update the candidate requisition status, which will then automatically update the candidate main status.

Is this possible?

It seems like the new invitation feature could do this but requires an application to be attached to the action step.  We have many steps in our selection process that do not have an application associate with them.  Can you do this through another section?
