Is there a way to make a field required on the Profile form depending on the candidate response to a question?

We have 2 fields - "Middle Initial" (Text box) and "Check if you do not have middle initial" (Checkbox) on the candidate page in the career section. We have made the Middle initial field required on the page and the issue we are having now if the candidate does not have a middle initial then they would check the checkbox but they are also forced to enter something into the middle initial field.
