Using variable in multiple reports - best method for updating

I have many reports that use the same variables, for instance I have one that assigns the recruiter to their leader, or an entity to the region - I am wanting to make sure I am using the best method possible for keeping these variables consistent in all of my reports. It would be GREAT if there was a way to create one variable that I could share with all reports and then be able to share that same variable in every report, is this even possible? I am afraid once we get too far with our report library it
