Start Workforce Comp Cycle runs for 60+ hours

Summary

I have 7 fast formulas and about 30 dynamic columns in the comp plan template. It took 60+ hours for the Start Workforce Comp Cycle batch process to complete

7100+ employees are eligible. The dynamic column calculations are not very complex.  I'm assuming the fast formulas are slowing the process down.  Without FFs it completes in 15 minutes.   

I set the Total Threads to 3 and the Chunk Size to 100 on the Configure Batch Parameters page, but it does not seem to help - the process I kicked off yesterday is still running...

Any ideas how to improve this?
