Inactive On-boarding process

Hi folks,
He is a problem scenario, please help us to know how can this is solved
1. For example, we have onboarding process called "OB Process V1", which has three tasks

2. A hired applicant got on-boarded on 10 Dec 2018 by inheriting the above onboarding process
3. the developer created one more copy of onboarding process and added a new task 4 on 12 Dec 2017 and made the new copy as active and inactivated the old process.

The business user expects him to get the task 4 executed and send some user-defined form. as process assignmed was preivous which was not having the task, how can be such situation be handled?
