Is it mandatory to use Proficiency rating model to update competency gap chart ?

Currently we are using profiencey rating model for both item rating and section rating for competency section performance document.

We have a requirement to change the existing rating model and create a new rating model to measure both competency section and section items. If we change the rating model is it impact to the competency gap chart ?
