Standard Fields in Employee Import

Not all Standard Fields are available in the Employee Import

Question, why aren't all of the standard employee fields available to be updated via the employee import process?  For example, SSN, Date of Birth and Employee Type or Duration are not available.  If they should be, what setting would I toggle to turn them all on?  Right now, I only see about 35 or so but not all.
