Updating gap chart with custom rating models

As per the requirement I have to create a custom rating model and applies as competency item rating model in the performance document. Section rating model is the proficiency model. As I know proficiency rating model should applies to update the competency gap chart. Since I'm using custom rating model for item rating and proficiency rating model for section rating, is there any impact to the gap chart updating ?
