Incrementally updating dimension data

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could share their experience automating metadata uploads. 

I can see that the standard PCMCS metadata upload requires the entire dimension structure and deletes members not present in the file. Is there any way to perform a metadata upload that is incremental instead (somewhat how PBCS native metadata upload works). 

The original intent was to send across only active members into this dimension, however this is not possible due to: 

• The file requiring the structural components (Non business parent level members) 
• The file of active members will not contain the previously active members, thus removing the historical data
