System Email Templates: Requisition-Candidate Merge Fields Issues

Merge fields are not pulling in to email templates.Content
Hi-- I've created a new system email template and have assigned it as a notification to a Req-Specific Candidate Workflow status "Hired".
I've tried to merge the <<CAREQ.Start Date>> from the Requisition-Candidate Fields in this email but when sent the email doesn't populate. Is anyone having the same issue? If so do you have a reason as to why it isn't working and a solution to this?
