Wrong rating pulling into Comp worksheet

How can we ensure the most recent performance rating is pulled into the worksheet?

We complete Mid-Year evaluations.  We have a separate performance document for Employees and a separate Manager performance document.  We just had managers enter ratings for the Annual Performance document.  When setting up the comp cycle, we selected the 2018 Performance Period which encompasses both the Mid-Year and Annual reviews.  The radio button for "most recent" was selected but clearly the wrong rating was pulled in for many employees.  How can we ensure the rating is pulled from the Annual Performance documents.
