Error on some records when loading performance rating

I am trying to load performance rating field onto the profileitem object and am receiving an error on some employees. Of the entire population 99% are having no error but there are a few showing error "Profile items data cannot be saved. Delete duplicate attributes or contact your administrator. "  I have looked at their person and do not see duplicated items so I am unsure where to look to resolve this error. Does anyone have an idea of what to look for to ensure all employees load?
