PTD, QTD and YTD - in Allocations

How to interpret PTD, QTD, YTD

I know what is PTD, QTD and YTD. But in Allocations, if I run it for a particular MONTH, and I choose my Balance Amount as 'Period Activity', what change would it make if I choose PTD, QTD or YTD?

Did any one worked in Allocations and tell me the difference with 'Period Activity' + PTD/QTD/YTD. And choosing ' Ending Balance' with PTD/QTD/YTD. (again I am choosing/running allocation for a month only here).
