Not able to restrict edit rights to analysis in specific folder

We provided employees with the 'Human Resource Analyst' in order for them to be able to create reports. This is what we want, however with this new role they are also able to edit the reports from the existing folders. We have some custom folders with reports used throughout the global HR community and we don't want the users with the Human Resource Analyst to be able to edit these reports. We've set the permissions in this specific folder to Read, and traverse. However, the employees with the Human Resource Analyst role are stilll able to edit the reports in
