It seems to take an hour or two, and certainly they are gone overnight, though you can filter for just, e.g. running, instances using the "STATE" dropdown list at the bottom left of the console.

Does having terminated instances still there matter?

I am working on a monitoring application. Till the time it is in the console, i will show it in my application. Just wanted to check, how long it will take to get removed from console, so that i can test the scenario where the API will return me instances excluding terminated ones. But still, i have to maintain the records of terminated ones.

I believe they're retained for "some" time for audit purposes. But I don't know what the retention period is and would like to know the answer as well. Thanks for asking!

Terminated instances will be visible in the TERMINATED state for 24 hours from the time of termination. Terminated instances do not count against your service limits.
