Defining Groups in BPM (Not Approval Groups)

Hi

Does anyone know if we can define or add users to Groups to be used in BPM.

By 'Groups' I do not mean approval groups, I mean the Groups which are referenced when sharing your worklist or in the approval rules as a Resource.

A lot of BPM functionality seems to be based around Groups, and there are a few seeded values, but I want to find out if we can create them and assign users to them?
