Parent Child Report

In my report, I am trying to only show the parents of a parent child relationship. I followed the guide to set up the relationship object but when I use a report to filter by related incident, it brings up both parent and child because they both have a related incident. I am trying to write a script that checks Column 1(incident ID) against all of Column 2(relatedincident ID) to check if their are any matches, if their are, delete that row. This should leave only the parents in Column 1. Is this the right way to do it? Or is
